MUTOMO MAARIFA CENTRE: About us

Mutomo District is an arid and semi-arid area in Kitui County situated 75 KM from Kitui town.The area receives minimal rainfall annually and the residents accassionally experience long spells of drought.The main economic activities are small scale crop farming and keeping of drought resistance domestic animals.

Arid Lands Information Network (ALIN ) in partnership with Commuication Commission Of Kenya and the Mutomo Mission Hospital established Mutomo Maarifa(Knowledge) Centre in October 2007. The Centre is hosted by the Mutomo Mission Hospital and provides the community with information such as small-scale sustainable agriculture, climate change adaptation,natural resources management and other livelihood issues.

Community Meetings on Climate Change Report

ALIN conducted a climate change awareness meeting on 14^th October 2009 at Malili town, 20 Kilometers from Mutomo town. In attendance were 73 participants who comprised of 38 Females and 35 males.

The aim of the one day meeting was to sensitize members of the Malili community on issues around climate change. The group was able to identify some contributing factors in their community, site some changes that have happened over time and identify ways through which they can reduce and adopt to climate change.
